NFCT is internationally regarded as the preeminent water trail organization in North America, serving an international market of paddlers and recognized as a model for water trail development and management.
NFCT provides trail access, meaningful trail experiences, trail mapping, trail construction and stewardship. It differentiates itself by the depth of programs and “give back” involvement within the communities of the North Country itself, such as economic development, local stewardship, and outdoor programming for underserved youth living in trailside villages that help them discover a sense of pride and purpose within the natural beauty that surrounds them.
The Trail is rapidly becoming a sought after model of environmental stewardship, outdoor recreation, and rural community vitality. It is the longest paddling trail in the nation, running from the Adirondacks of northern New York to the Allagash of northern Maine. Outside Magazine named it “Best Canoe Trail” in 2011 and “Best East Coast Adventure” in 2012.
